The 79th Annual Academy Award nominations were announced this morning. This year, the "Best Score" mominees have very little in common with the Golden Globes - there is only one score in common among them, although Alexandre Desplat (who won the Golden Globe for The Painted Veil) received an Oscar nom for another film he did in 2006. Three of the scores were in our Best of 2006, and even Notes on a Scandal was on the shortlist - but didn\'t make the cut in the end. In the song category, the biggest surprise is that all three new songs from Dreamgirls are nominated, and it\'s always nice to see Randy Newman get another nom. Here\'s the list of music nominees:
Music (Score)
BABEL (Gustavo Santaolalla)
THE GOOD GERMAN (Thomas Newman)
NOTES ON A SCANDAL (Philip Glass)
PAN\'S LABYRINTH (Javier Navarrete)
THE QUEEN (Alexandre Desplat)
Music (Song)
"I Need to Wake Up" from AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH (Melissa Etheridge)
"Listen" from DREAMGIRLS (Henry Krieger, Scott Cutler, Anne Preven)
"Love You I Do" from DREAMGIRLS (Henry Krieger, Siedah Garrett)
"Our Town" from CARS (Randy Newman)
"Patience" from DREAMGIRLS (Henry Krieger, Willie Reale)
The Academy Awards will air on Sunday, February 25 at 8e/5p on ABC.
