The Society of Composers and Lyricists held a special advance screening of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King this past weekend at the Beverly Fairfax Theater in Los Angeles. On hand to discuss the score after the screening of the film was composer Howard Shore, who fielded questions by noted film music journalist and author Jon Burlingame. The questions focused on his process and methodology. An interesting tidbit that came up was that he expects the expanded edition of the film, to be released next year on DVD, to have over an hour of extra footage placed back into the film! Special thanks to Laura Dunn of the SCL.
