Award-winning composer Christopher Young scores the music to the Lionsgate comedy-drama Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas, in theaters on December 13. The latest chapter of the Madea franchise follows the sassy elderly woman as she's coaxed by a friend into a holiday family visit in a rural town where a Christmas Carnival takes place. Perry writes, directs and also stars as the titular character. Perry additionally called upon Young to write music for his March 14 release Single Moms Club which centers around a group of mothers who are brought together following an incident at their children's schools. The film stars Nia Long, Amy Smart, Terry Crews and Wendi McLendon-Covey and will also be distributed by Lionsgate. Perry joins a number of critically-acclaimed directors who have tapped Young for his breathtaking film music including Sam Raimi, Barry Levinson, Curtis Hanson and Jon Amiel.
Recently, Young delivered a unique, dark sound to the intense action scenes in Millennium Films' Killing Season starring Robert De Niro and John Travolta, incorporating sweeping strings, acoustic guitar and a full orchestra. Young has scored everything from bone-chilling horror films including The Grudge and Drag Me To Hell, to action-packed thrillers such as Spider-Man 3, and award-winning dramas The Shipping News and The Hurricane.
Christopher Young has received numerous accolades throughout his celebrated career. He has been nominated for two Emmys and received both a Golden Globe and Broadcast Film Critics Association nomination for The Shipping News. In addition to his film-composing career, Young is a dedicated mentor who has taught classes at USC and served as an advisor for the Sundance Institute Film Composers Lab.
