Acclaimed composer Avner Dorman, known for his unique composition of rhythm and timbre, has been signed to score award-winning Israeli director Avi Nesher's film noir, fantasy thriller film The Wonders. The film marks Dorman's feature film composing debut. Dorman will both compose and conduct the film score.
The Wonders tells the quirky story of a cool cat graffiti artist, a mystery man, a grumpy, cynical private investigator and a neurotic femme fatale that embark on a magical mystery tour into the very heart of darknesss of modern day Jerusalem.
Avner Dorman has quickly risen to become one of the leading concert composers of his generation. Dorman's music achieves a rare combination of rigorous compositional construction while preserving the sense of excitement and spontaneity usually associated with Jazz, Rock or Ethnic Music. Famous for his innovative use of percussion, Dorman's two percussion concerti Spices, Perfumes, Toxins! and Frozen in Time are quickly becoming staples of the repertoire.
Dorman's original compositions have attracted some of the world's most notable conductors, including Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach and Marin Alsop to bring his music to audiences of the New York Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, the San Francisco Symphony, the Musikverein, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Tokyo NHK Symphony, Salzburg Festival, Lucerne Festival, Cabrillo Music Festival, and many others.
Dorman's music has garnered numerous awards and prizes. Dorman's music received a Grammy nomination in 2011 for Best Performance of a Soloist with Orchestra for his "Mandolin Concerto." At the age of 25, he became the youngest composer to win Israel's prestigious Prime Minister's Award for his Ellef Symphony. He has received several international awards from ASCAP, ACUM and the Asian Composers League. He is currently composing Letters from Gettysburg, a piece for Choir and Percussion, commissioned by Gettysburg College, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
The Wonders is being produced by David Silber, Moshe Edery, Leon Edery and Avi Nesher and is from Oscar-nominated and award-winning companies Metro Communications and United King Films (Beaufort, Lebanon) with a screenplay by Avi Nesher and Shaa'nan Street.
