The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the organization that stages the annual Academy Award ceremony and awards the Oscar statuette to the best achievements in motion pictures, has invited 176 new members to join its ranks, including five composers into the music branch.
The invited composers are: Ludovic Bource (The Artist), Alberto Iglesias (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Conrad Pope (My Week with Marilyn), Ryuichi Sakamoto (Love Is the Devil) and Theodore Shapiro (The Big Year).
Invitees were selected based on their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Those who accept the membership will be the only new members in admitted to the Academy in 2012, and they will be eligible to vote cast their votes for the upcoming 85th Academy Awards.
The full list of member invitations is available on the Academy's Oscars.org website.
