Award winning composer Mark Isham has scored the Warner Bros. drama The Lucky One, opening in theaters April 20, 2012. Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, The Lucky One tells the story of a Marine who, after serving in Iraq, searches for the unknown woman he believes was his good luck charm during the war. The film is directed by Scott Hicks and stars Zac Efron, Blythe Danner and Taylor Schilling.
Mark Isham welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with director Scott Hicks on the film. Isham explains, "I've always wanted to work with Scott Hicks. I feel we have similar sensibilities and it was a pleasure to work with him." The composer described his scoring process, "It was important to me to show the two extremes, the horror of war and the beauty of a blooming love affair. Using different musical elements, the score ranges from intimate solo piano and guitar to a full 80 piece orchestraa very wide scope," Isham stated.
Mark Isham's recent credits include the critically acclaimed films Warrior and Dolphin Tale and ABC's hit drama Once Upon A Time. Isham has traversed from Grammy winning performer and songwriter to writing award winning scores for film and television. He has written critically-acclaimed scores to over 100 films including Oscar winning film Crash, Miracle, A River Runs Through It, Nell, and The Black Dahlia. He has collaborated with Robert Redford, Tom Cruise, Brian De Palma, Jodie Foster, Robert Altman, and Sydney Lumet. As a performer, Isham displays his talents in a variety of genres. His musical stylings can be heard on releases of music legends' Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, and The Rolling Stones. Isham won the Grammy for his solo album Mark Isham.
Mark Isham is also an activist for musicians' rights. He launched the non-profit "I Buy My Music," an anti-piracy music campaign that supports music makers and their art. A portion of all proceeds from "I Buy My Music" merchandise benefits Education Through Music Los Angeles.
