Review: Whisperers, The
3 / 5 Stars
Hey, yet another film I haven't seen (where do they keep finding
these things?). The film revives a genarian of the sixties (Dame Edith
Evans... I guess our modern day equivalent this year was Gloria Stewart) to
play an aging woman dealing with the ravages of those years and a less
than perfect life. As mentioned in the liner notes, this is truly an
atmospheric piece, very akin to Born Free but without the "mickey
mousing" of the action and less pompous than Across the Sea of Time.
Here we get a feel for Barry's skill writing for trumpet (his native
instrument) and one would wonder if , after his extremely close
involvement during production, he actually performed on this recording. As
with the previous four releases, the sound quality ranges from good to
excellent, and is beneficial when listening to the subtleties that exist in
this score.
