Limited to 1,000 copies.
Based on the two-character play by Jan Hartog, The Four Poster is a delightful romantic comedy produced by Stanley Kramer with a lyrical, lilting musical score by Dimitri Tiomkin. Unique to The Four Poster are the UPA Studios animated sequences. The scoring for these cartoon gems gives Tiomkin an opportunity for complete departure from his foundation score and he interpolates a variety of period melodies and motifs.
This CD presents the first comprehensive release of music from The Four Poster and, in fact, the score is presented in its entirety, taken from acetates in the Tiomkin Collection at the University of Southern California Cinema and Television Library. While most of the discs were in very good condition, and considerable effort was made to repair damage, there is some residual groove-edge wear that was irremovable without severe suppression of fidelity.
Audio production is by Ray Faiola, Chelsea Rialto Studios. Package design by Jim Titus.
