Digitmovies presents on CD the complete original motion picture soundtrack from the 1968 movie Preparati la bara! directed by Ferdinaldo Baldi.
In those days no single or album were issued. The first release came out in 1998 (Rca 74321-63517-2) containing 11 selections in stereo coupled with the Carlo Rustischelli score for the movie Un minuto per pregare, un istante per morire. The Ost was composed by the brothers Gianfranco.
The main theme is the song of Beat flavour for Trumpet, choir and orchestra: "You'd better smile" (Tr.1) performed by Nicola Di Bari, a very popular Italian singer during the sixties and seventies. This motif is reprised in a slow version (tr.2), in a faster rhythmical (Tr.4) and in a slower one with trumpet and choir developed with an epic tone (tr.5), more quiet with electric guitar and flute (Tr.7). The Title song reprised with an instrumental version (Tr.8) and in a slower rendition (Tr.9). This song is reprised in the Italian version of the Titoli di Coda (Tr.11).
For this very ultimate CD edition we could use the mono master tapes of the original recording session and so we have added sixteen alternate takes and film versions like bonus tracks: an almost atonal performance of electric guitar (tr.12), the main theme performed by solo bass flute (Tr.13), two inedit saloon tunes (Tr.14, Tr.15) and a longer take of the album version (Tr.17), alternate takes of the main theme (Tr.18, Tr.20, Tr.21, Tr.22, Tr.23, Tr.24). The vocal version sung in English by Nicola di Bari with a different arrangement (Tr.25) and the long version of Titoli di coda (Tr.26). Our Cd closes with an off vocal version (Tr.27) of the alternate take of the theme song featured in Tr.25.
