Review: Miracle on 34th Street
4 / 5 Stars
Just in time for the holidays, Intrada Records released the complete score to Bruce Broughton's delightful score for the 1994 remake Miracle on 34th Street. While the original album release was filled with songs and had only three tracks of excerpts, this album contains almost 70-minutes of score. From the sweeping opening "Main Title", to the jazzy "Love Theme", to the softer dramatic moments ("I Disgraced Myself"), this score is filled with strong themes.
It's impossible to listen to this album, and not get emotionally caught up in the music. It's enough to warm any Scrooge's heart. With an uplifting ending, this album (and the film) does nothing but exude holiday joy. "The Bellevue Carol" stands out as one of my favorite tracks, with a delicious mix of choir and soft strings. Listening to this score, I'm still at a loss as to why Broughton hasn't been getting more feature film work - he's certainly proven himself time and time again that he can hit homeruns. This release is part of Intrada's excellent "Special Collection" line of limited releases, so you'd better pick yours up today.
